Kakodkar Fellow for Ph.D. in
Accelerator Physics and
Technology

(Fermilab Sponsored fellowship for Indian Students)

Overview
Description

The Kakodkar Fellowship is instituted to enhance the accelerator related activities under the Indian Institutions and Fermilab Collaboration (IIFC). The goal is to attract outstanding Indian students for pursuing Ph.D. in accelerator physics and related technologies. This fellowship is created to enhance IIFC’s capabilities in accelerator science and related technologies, and to train and develop the accelerator scientists and technologists for future programs. The Kakodkar Fellows program will targets entry-level Ph.D. students who wish to embark on a career in accelerator physics or technology.

Kakodkar Fellows would have extraordinary latitude in choosing their research activities and are provided with significant research support. Current areas of research that are of interest to IIFC include (but are not limited to): high intensity proton beams, high intensity neutrino sources, superconducting magnets, superconducting RF Linac and associated technologies, accelerator controls and feedback, and computational physics and modeling.

Fermilab seeks applications for this fellowship from candidates (from Indian Ph.D. granting institutions) with outstanding credentials in their university examinations, especially in physics and mathematics. Preference would be given to a person who has done some research in the relevant field and who has the potential to be a future leader in the field.

Eligibility

Candidate must have received a B.Sc. (Honors) and M.Sc. in physics with distinction. Candidate must be a Ph.D. candidate at an Indian university and should have finished all the course required for Ph.D., passed Indian national tests and passed the Ph.D. qualifying examination. Candidate would remain the Ph.D. student of the Indian university while doing research work at Fermilab. Candidate’s home institution must accept Fermilab scientist as a co-supervisor on the thesis.

Term of Appointment

The initial term of the Fellowship for candidates is three year appointment. It could be extended by one year. For more detail please write to Shekhar Mishra, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
