On 26th November 2012, I attended a meeting organised by Maharashtra Academy of Sciences and Shivaji University Kolhapur at Kolhapur. The objective was to discuss possible engagement between fellows of the academy, University researchers and Rajiv Gandhi Science and Technology Commission in developing projects that contribute to development and are of value to industry. Apart from Vice-Chancellor,  Institute of Chemical Technology-Mumbai, who is also the President of Maharashtra Academy of Sciences and Vice-Chancellor, Shivaji University, Vice-Chancellors of Pune University and D.Y.Patil University were also present along with a large number of fellows of the Academy and faculty members of participating Universities. Industry was also represented.

I do hope that the discussion would lead to greater interaction between academia and industry duly mentored by fellows of the academy on a sustained basis and lead to more meaningful R&D projects to be funded by Rajiv Gandhi Science and Technology Commission in a manner consistent with its mandate.”
